HANDBUILDING WORKSHOP
18.03+02.04.
4 hour pottery workshop divided into two sessions:
19.03.25, 18.30-21.00 + 02.04.25 18.30-20.00
In the handbuilding-workshop, you’ll be taught the fundamental techniques you need to know to make your own pottery by just using your hands. Be it functional ceramics such as cups, mugs, bowls, plates or free sculptural forms. You’re free to work on your own ideas, or I can help you develop them.
The workshop starts by introducing the first technique, which will allow you to get comfortable with clay.
From there on, we will continue with more advanced techniques. If you’d like to join the open studio in the future it is advised to participate in a handbuilding-workshop before to get introduced to the studio, how to work with clay and the do’s and don’ts about making pottery.
The workshop consists of two sessions.
In the first session, which lasts 2,5 hours, you’ll make your creation(s) out of clay. After the session, I’ll take care of the drying process and bisque-fire your pieces for the first time.
Two weeks later, you’ll return to the second session, which will be all about glazing. In the 1,5 hour workshop, you’ll learn how to glaze and decorate your ceramics. Afterwards, I’ll take care of the glaze-firing. I fire to 1.240°C, so your work is dishwasher safe and suitable for use as tableware. Approximately 2-3 weeks later, your work will be ready for you to pick up at the studio. You can also get them sent to you for a small shipping fee.
Including:
clay, glaze, bisque firing, glaze firing, tool usage and drinks. You can create as many pieces as you’d like.
Where:
The workshop takes place in the MATE Ceramics studio: Rua do Fonanário 1, 2640-401 Achada-Mafra, Portugal.
The studio is located just 6 minutes towards the inland by car. There is also a bus station in front of the studio on the main street. I’ll send you location instructions after booking as the studio is located on a backroad, not visible from the outside.
All workshops are held in English by default but can be translated in German.
