OPEN STUDIO
THURSDAYS WHEEL
5-7pm and/or 7-9pm
Every Thursday from 5 pm to 9 pm, the studio opens its doors to people interested in independently working on their own pottery projects. This is not a workshop; I’ll be around to answer questions, but I can’t help everybody individually. If you’ve never worked with clay, it is advised to book a wheel class before. This way you’ll learn the fundamental techniques needed to make your own pottery.
How it works:
There is one throwing wheel available, which you can book during the open studio. Pre-book your slot to reserve the wheel. If you’d like to dive deep you’re welcome to book the whole 4 hours (which is advised as wheel throwing takes a lot of time). Please note that you’ll have to clean your tools and work-space after finishing.
15 minutes of cleaning are calculated into the 2-hour slot, so remember to tidy up in time before the next person starts. You’re responsible for your pieces, come back the next week to trimm them and finish the bases. After 2-3 weeks, come back to glaze your pieces (book another spot) or choose the glazing service if you’d prefer to skip that step.
Open Studio Prices:
2 hours – 20 €
4 hours – 38 €
Glazes, tools, and bisque firing are included. Clay needs to
be purchased extra (14€/10Kg bag or 7€/5Kg). For the glaze firing, your pieces will be weighed after the final firing: -> 1 €/100g of finished ceramics.
Glazing Service:
I’ll take care of the glazing and you can pick up your pieces once they’re ready or you can get them sent to you for a small fee. Please book the glazing service through the website or in the studio.
For pieces made in a two hour open studio session – 11 €
For pieces made in a four hour open studio session – 19 €
Including glaze and glazing service. For the glaze firing, I’ll weigh your pieces after the firing and charge 1€/100g of ceramics.
Where:
The workshop takes place in the MATE Ceramics studio:
Rua do Fonanário 1, 2640-401 Achada-Mafra, Portugal
The studio is located just 6 minutes from Ericeira towards the inland by car. There is also a bus station in front of the studio on the main street. I’ll send you location instructions after booking as the studio is located on a backroad, not visible from the outside.
All workshops are held in English by default but can be translated in German.
